Cyclone Update

Tue Feb 14 03:43pm

Kia ora e te whānau,

Thank-you very much to our school community for their patience and understanding during the cyclone.

Thankfully, we have escaped serious damage and we will be OPEN tomorrow Wednesday 15th February. We have had some damage to our junior playground shade sail and some fallen tree limbs at school. We have some areas that are roped off for safety.

The great news is, after a clean up today, we are safe, ready and looking forward to welcoming our tamariki back tomorrow.

Our aroha and prayers go to those affected by the cyclone.

Mā te Atua tātou e manaaki

May God’s blessings be upon us all

SCHOOL CLOSURE-Tuesday 14th November

Mon Feb 13 04:43pm

Kia Ora St Marys School Whānau,
Thank-you very much for your patience and understanding around my communication last night and today. These calls are not always popular but are made with a safety priority.
As with other schools in our community, St Marys School Board Chairperson and the Senior Leadership team has decided to close the school tomorrow – Tuesday 14 February – due to the unpredictable nature of Cyclone Gabrielle and the focus of personal safety at this time.
We would like to thank you all for your patience and support at this time and look forward to seeing all students again on Wednesday.
In the interim, we remind whanau to be cautious and if you have any concerns or doubts, do not hesitate to seek safety or help.

We plan to reopen on Wednesday 15 February, but will update everyone by 4.00pm tomorrow.
There will be no online learning tomorrow as we fully expect to be back on Wednesday.

Stay safe.
James Murray

Cyclone Update-please read

Mon Feb 13 11:59am

Kia ora e te whānau,

I do hope everyone is safe and well at this stage. All of the children here today are safe and well in their classrooms.

The weather has changed and is a little wilder and potentially getting worse. If you would like to collect your child early from school (2pm onwards) you are more than welcome to do so. Just go to your child’s classroom and collect them. There is no need to sign in and out through the office. The teacher will just take note of this. This will help ease congestion at the end of the day. Of course if you feel you need to do so earlier that is also ok.

Any information regarding tomorrow will be made later this afternoon/evening. Stay safe everyone.

Please be safe at drop offs today and be patient. If at any stage it gets unsafe we will notify families.

If you require anything please let us know by emailing me: jmurray@stmarystga.school.nz or your child’s teacher.

Thank you for your patience.

Monday morning Cyclone update

Mon Feb 13 07:12am

Kia ora e te whānau,
I hope our community is safe and dry?
If you require anything please let us know by emailing me: jmurray@stmarystga.school.nz or your childs teacher.
The weather has changed and is a little wild.
At this stage school is still OPEN today. If that changes we will let whānau know as early as possible and it may well get worse during the day.
So far, we believe it is safe to OPEN, but things may change over the course of the day.
We understand that whānau may wish to make their own decisions about keeping tamariki at home tomorrow and fully support you in that choice. Please just let us know in the usual ways that your child will be absent.
Please be safe at dropoffs today and be patient. If at any stage it gets unsafe we will notify families.
Thank you for your patience.

Ra Whanau Mai

Wed Feb 01 10:17am

Rā Whānau Mai
Kia Ora Whanau,

I hope everyone and their families are well and safe in their environments. The weather is wild and will mean we are making a few alterations to Ra Whanau Mai day tomorrow. We are very much looking forward to building strong relationships with our families so please if you haven’t booked your time for tomorrow please do so.

A reminder that on Thursday the 2nd of February, St Mary’s will open for Rā Whānau Mai. This is a family open day and is a great opportunity for you, as parents and whānau, to share your expectations, your child’s interests, strengths, and learning needs and the knowledge you value, directly with your child’s teacher.

Each time slot (one per child) will be 10 minutes long and can be booked by going to: www.schoolinterviews.co.nz and using the following code: cpv9d or by using this direct link https://www.schoolinterviews.co.nz/code/cpv9d

It would be very helpful if you could please complete this questionnaire with your child before you meet with the teacher on Thursday the 2nd of February. Thank you.

School is closed for instruction for Rā Whānau.

The coffee cart will be at school from 9am to 12pm. As the weather is a little wild we will not be having the swimming pool open and no sausage sizzle.

A school newsletter and team newsletters will come out today as well. Please check HERO, school website and the school app.

We are looking forward to continuing to work together in 2023 to provide effective home-school partnerships in which parents and teachers are involved together in our children’s learning.
