St Mary’s Catholic School was founded by our Cluny Sisters in 1942 who still have a presence in our school today.

We are a Primary School (Year 1 – 6) of Special Catholic Character that caters for the education and supports the faith development of families within the Parish of St Thomas Aquinas. The Special Catholic Character of our school is expressed through the students, teachers and wider school community, living and teaching Gospel Values.

We have an extremely talented and professional team of staff, supported by a dedicated Board of Trustees and a committed parent community. Our harbour setting is second to none; a fantastic place for children to come and learn, and a rewarding place for teachers to come and teach. It is our collective aim to provide the very best learning opportunities for all of our students.

Our school sits on the edge of Tauranga harbour which provides unique and beautiful learning environment.

Please watch our video to gain a sense of the culture and values of our school here.

At St Mary’s School we value students from different cultures. If you are considering bringing your child to New Zealand for education purposes it is important to know that St Mary’s School is a Signatory to The Code of Practice for Pastoral Care of International Students.

The pastoral care of our International students includes assistance with enrolment, orientation into the school and to the local area. International students and their parents are able to meet with our International Students Tutor at any time to discuss problems and experiences around the school.

The students are also involved in English language sessions with our tutor four times a week for 30-minute sessions. The school supports our international students with small group sessions instructed by our specialist ESOL teacher.

The International Students Tutor meets with parents once a term to share information relevant to their child’s learning development.  St Mary’s hosts a termly afternoon tea, with parents and agents invited. We hope that with will provided a successful way for our international families to meet up with each other.
