St Mary’s, an integrated Roman Catholic Primary School, was established in 1942 and was originally staffed by the Sisters of St Joseph of Cluny.

St Mary's was integrated into New Zealand's State system on May 24 1982 with a maximum roll of 305 pupils.

In 2003 St Mary’s changed from being a full primary to a school catering to Year 1 – Year 6 students with a maximum roll which has grown to 410 pupils. It now has a highly skilled management and teaching team who are all Roman Catholics.

Centrally located in the city of Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty on the North Island of New Zealand, St. Mary's is blessed with a magnificent setting. Tauranga Estuary forms one boundary of the school grounds providing students with the opportunity to take part in water activities such as kayaking and various studies related to water habitats and marine life. Nestled amongst 'The Avenues' of Tauranga City its surrounding residential area is highly sort after location.
